Attention Parents

Although we would discourage practicing Kenpo without proper supervision students can practice safely at home. By standing in front of a mirror they can see if blocks and stances look right and even visualise an attack as they step through a technique to defend themselves. Parents are encouraged to take part in this activity, you can login to the members area to access the syllabus which details all of the Techniques, forms and sets your child needs to know to advance to the next belt grade.

Equipment

Most important piece of protective equipment, available for boys and girls. Tip!To avoid discomfort wear boxer shorts or cycling shorts under guard.
Head Gear
Good quality headgear with adjustable straps, very important especially for our youngsters.
Boxing Gloves / Mitts
For the Kenpo style you should invest in gloves which are well padded and cover the fingers and thumb. Although some of our techniques involve grappling we do not allow grappling style gloves for sparring. Finger Nails should never be exposed!
Foot Guard / Mitt
Depending on personal preference you can go for foot guard or full foot and shin guard.
Body Armour
Optional piece of protective equipment which can be used for extra protection.
Uniform / Gi
Black Karate Suit, available from club with association badges. If required alterations should be made to make sure sleeves and bottoms are not too long so as to allow freedom of movement. Club T-Shirts as well as light weight bottoms are also available for intensive / summer training.
